I have now ventured into the world of YouTube. Feel free to subscribe to the channel. I do have a video already uploaded about how to get a job into sports marketing! So make sure you check it out and subscribe!
The day has finally come...I can now offically call myself a published writer :)
As some will know I currently intern at Sports Networker. In my free time I had written them an article, please feel free to have a look. And check out the rest of the site I cannot boast about this site enought its fantastic :)
With only one year to go there is increasingly more talk about the 2014 Winter Olympics. However, a large amount less than London 2012. Granted we were the host nation, but come to think of it I have never noticed a great hype about the Winter Olympics. Why is this? In the UK we don't exactly have many places to practice these winter sports. But I have also noticed there is no worldly interest in these games compared to the Summer Olympics.
This could be due to a number of reasons.
Ed Drake- Team GB in Vancouver 2012, BBC Sport
Money
Living in a host city for an Olympic games you are consistently?? bombarded with the amount of money that is being spent to host these games. Every four years the cost of hosting these games has risen. For example; Sydney 2000 cost- £720million, Athens 2004 cost- £11billion and Bejing 2008 cost- £40billion.
Yes I know these are all summer games host cities, but in 2010 hosting cost Vancouver $7billion and for 2012 Sochi & Sponsors would have forked out over $50billion. This price is extraordinary, and unimaginable what is this money going on? The Winter Olympics has only 7 different sports and just over 80 events...
The cost of hosting has also lead to counties pulling out of the race to host these games. The Swiss cities of St Mortiz & Davos recently pulled out from running to host the 2020 Winter Olympics. Switzerland decided to pull out after the residents of the cities voted no. A major reason for the residents voting no was reported because of the high costs that Sochi and over cities has endured hosting the greatest shows on earth.
Sports
Both Summer and Winter Olympics are based around sports and competing on your countries behalf. Traditionally and in fact still today, the Winter Olympics has only attracted those countries who has a good winter for people to take part in these winter sports and become good at them. I think this is a major reason why the Winter Olympics are developing at the rate of Summer games or getting as much media attention, TV coverage, Sponsorship (not including Sochi), interest from the world and just attention in general.
Team GB Ice Hockey Vancouver 2010- BBC Sport
Winter Olympians take part in 7 different sports with a grand total of 86 events. Compare with the summer games of 26 sports (sport that actually took place in London 2012) and 302 events (in London 2012). That is a HUGE difference. For the generation of today when attention span is low having around 5 different sports and 60 different events on each day is amazing, so much choice, drama, and activity.
I think its about time for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to start thinking about introducing new sports, if that it possible. How many winter sports can you name? I think there is only a limited amount of sports that uses snow or ice. This is where I think there needs to be a re-think of "winter sports". Could some summer sports be transferred over? Or invention of new sports?
If new sports are unable to be brought in, then something needs to done to spice up the existing sports. The sports in the winter games most people find them hard to relate too. For example; Curling? Not curling someones hair but the sport, I think I have made my point. There aren't many sports people can relate too, unless of course they live in the snowy areas of the world.
There are many things that need to change for the Winter Olympics to keep up with the success of the summer games. Hopefully the amount of money going into Sochi 2014, something spectacular will happen.
Goal-line technology will finally be used selectively in Football (soccer) matches and tournaments. FIFA has launched a tender process for selecting a company to fulfill the contract for its showpiece competitions. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) gave the go ahead in July of the introduction of goal line technology by approving Hawk-Eye and GoalRef systems these systems were used in the 2012 Club World Cup venues in Toyota and Yokohama. FIFA said the systems were "successfully" implemented at Decembers tournament.
Picture from The Guardian
After this success FIFA has confirmed that GLT will be used at the 2013 confederations cups and 2014 World cup in Brazil. For England fans this has been a long time coming, especially after the controversial Frank Lampard goal in 2010 against Germany in the world cup.
FIFA said in a statement: “The aim is to use GLT in order to support the match officials and to install a system in all stadia, pending the successful installation, and pre-match referee tests. With different technologies on the market, FIFA has launched a tender today, setting out the technical requirements for the two forthcoming competitions in Brazil. The two GLT providers already licensed under FIFA’s Quality Programme for GLT, and other GLT providers currently in the licensing process (that must have passed all relevant tests as of today) are invited to submit tenders. Interested GLT companies will be invited to join an inspection visit to the Confederations Cup venues, currently scheduled for mid-March, with a final decision due to be confirmed in early April.”
FIFA has awarded GoalControl, based in Germany a license for its
goal-line technology system GoalControl-4D. GoalControl-4D uses 14
high-speed camera located around the pitch which are focused on both
goals. The position of the ball is continually and automatically
captured in three dimensions as soon as it approaches the goal line. the
system will send a signal to the Referees watch in less than a second,
one the WHOLE ball has crossed the line. GoalControl will provide GLT at
the FIFA Confederations Cups and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. FIFA has confirmed that all systems will all feature at these cups. GLT, Hawk eye, GoalRef and GoalControl.
Most recently the English Premier League has also said that GLT will be used in next season. GLT will start as early as the Community Shield, at Wembley in August. The Football association general Secretary Alex, Horne, ahead of the International FA Board (IFAB) meeting in Edinburgh, said:
"We are in the middle of tendering at the moment with the Premier League, so its effectively 20 Premier League Clubs and Wembley Stadium.
"We are looking at the providers that are available and are looking at a couple and will be making a decision shortly. We expect the technology to be in place for next season, for the Community Shield"
To many football fans this is a great outcome and can only enhance the game. like technology has done for crickets' decision review system, tennis and hawk eye, even in the NFL technology has improved the game. GLT tries to eradicate human error, even if human error can cause that much beloved drama that all sport fans live for. GLT is not 100% fool-proof but will strive to make the game fairer and remove those awful decisions.
I am all for GLT, it will create new drama and doesn't take away the love or humanity of sports. It can only improve the game and bring sport into digital era.
As the public demand more from everyone and everyone, we find out more about celebrities and sports stars than our own families and friends. So it can become increasingly difficult to sponsor a 'good guy'. The one brand I think who has suffered the most by making wrong sponsorship choices has to be Nike.
Unfortunately for Nike, it has sponsored some bad guys. Although, now not sponsoring Lance Armstrong or Oscar Pistorius. Does having these 'bad guys' really damage a brand? Did Nike make a mistake sponsoring these guys? Or is Nike just really unluckily in their pick of sport stars?
I think the letter, there's no way Nike could have known any of this, unless they have mystic meg n their team too. Maybe sponsors should start doing back ground and personality checks to see what's the percentage of a possible bad mistake/action a prospective sport star could make?
As far as it hurting the brand, I think it can do quite some damage. But as Nike is a well established brand and has three bad guys within about five years, and they are still doing ok. So I think it depends on how big the brand is to how well it can absorb those losses through these bad public figures.
Mostly, all the news would be about these people and the things they have done that has made them loose the sponsorship in the first place. Rather than the band being criticized for sponsoring these people. Good for the band, bad for those athletes.
Well I hope Nike can find a good guy soon, 3 is certainly enough bad press for one brand!
I am sure most of you have heard about BTs new project, BT Sport. BT Sport is set to rival the biggest UK sport media giant BSKYB. This will bring a new dimension into the UK Sports media world, but a much needed and exciting one at that.
With a new player in town not only would their be a fight for the biggest games, but hopefully more coverage for those teams that don't get enough. And what I am personally really hoping for is the smaller sports getting some more attention. So fingers crossed...
BT Sport has already unveiled some really exciting stuff, for example their purpose built offices will be built in Stratford, a stone throw away from the Olympic Park. And has surcured some big names like Jake Humphrey that will anchor the Barclays premier league. And Claire Balding will have a weekly show. Both of these names had huge success covering the the Olympics and other major sporting events. So I am pleased to them achieving a regular gig.
BT Sport will be released this summer, and the 2013/14 is shaping up pretty good with 38 live Barclays premier league matches, loads of match from Brazil, France & Italy. And exclusive Aviva premiership Rugby matches, lots of women's tennis from 21 tournaments from around the world. This is a great start for BT Sport, I am us between now and the summer more deals will be established.
One huge break through that will really challenge, rivals BSKYB is BT Sport have just struck a deal with ESPNs UK & Ireland's TV channels. BT will continue to broadcast at least one ESPN-branded channel. BT Sport will have the rights to show live coverage of the 2013/14 FA Cup, plus Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League, UEFA Europa League, German Bundesliga. More excitingly, BT Sport will also have the rights to ESPNs America channel which will show US sports including NCAA College Basketball, NCAA College Football and NASCAR. This is great news for both BT Sport and the US Sports trying to make a bid in the UK Sport market too.
BT Sport is already BIG news in the game and I am excited to see where else it could lead. This can only be a positive for the UK Sports market. If you want to sign up for more information to BT Sport and start to register interest to sign up to it follow this link... www.btsport.com
I personally can't wait to sign up and watch even more incredible amount of sport. What do you think of BT Sports success? do you think it will last? Let me know!
Some of you may have already seen Facebook adverts for voice apps or seen/heard of the app called bubbly. Bubbly originated in Singapore and has been a big hit. It has been in the UK for a couple of months now and no one has really picked up on it. The only big name I have found is Rio Ferdinand, who actually uses it quite regularly, discussing important topics.
So how does it work?
Well once you have set up an account, you can add your Facebook & Twitter to it too, you then can record yourself talking about whatever you wish. You can record up to 90 seconds Long. So you can really get your voice heard (literally!).
You can also add sound effect like laughter, clapping and like a game show music thing. Once recorded you also add more special effects to it. For example, making it echoey, sound like a witch and lots more. These bits are really fun to use. You can play it back before you post is to your followers. You can also share it in twitter & Facebook.
This does seem like a good idea, however for those who don't like hearing their own voice it will take some getting use to. I believe if it does take off the people who could profit the most from it would be clubs & teams. As they could do a 90 interview, match report or over clips. Fans would love what the man of the match actually said, hearing the chanting of your favourite football team if you ccaouldnt make it to the match.
Motivational speakers and sports stars could make a killing from it. As the demand grows for 'access all areas' from the people we love to see, perform and do what they do best. This could be the way forward.
Apps like bubbly really break down even more barriers and can bring you a lot closer to people, events and life. Your not just reading what people are saying, your actually hearing them. Picking up on peoples emotions and feelings. It's a very powerful tool.
Overall, I think there are a lot of positives going for this. But it's just a case of when people pick up on it. It's certainly something to look out for! try it for yourself and see what you think!
As I am sure most of you are aware there has been a new YouTube sensation, the Harlem shake. If you don't know what I am talking about take a look at this....
I am not a 100% sure on how it came about, but it's now the latest craze. So much so I think even my University wants to jump on the band wagon and make one... I shall let you know how that goes!
My focus for today is, is it right for brands to jump on these crazes for their own product? I am of course talking about Pepsi version. See below.
I find it quite an amusing advert myself and they were quick to jump on this opportunity. Let's face it,
if Pepsi didn't do it, some else would have. Just like Oreos Super Bowl black out social media advert that went out within minutes.... (just wow! At the power of social media!)
The difference is between these two is, Oreo was smart and original. But Pepsi has just jumped on a bandwagon of crazy YouTube lovers. Is it worth it?
I guess it is worth it otherwise people wouldn't be talking about this advert. I think brands and marketers are right to embrace these YouTube craze. As that's want people to watch and copy. I think it's a brilliant idea, it's easy, you didn't really have to think of much and it's in the here and now.
Granted the fad might be over soon. But at least you can say you did it. You tried and most of all you most likely got watched (it has over 35,000 views already!).
So I want to congratulate Pepsi, I think it was a bold but great move. And no doubt the next craze I am sure we will see other big brands getting involved.

Ps I would have loved to one of those cans explode due to all the shaking at the end...
I went to a fashion show on thursday, I know it's not related to sports or what I usually chat about but I do think its worth a mention.
The show was in the eve of London Fashion Week. A big week for the fashionista up and down the country. I have always wanted to go to see what it was like. So I ended up with some free tickets and had a look.
Despite turning up slightly underdressed, it's was quite an enjoyable occasion. A free glass of bubbly with entry and a free goody bag, who could say no! The collection was by Mary K, the clothes were lovely, the bold prints were mesmerising. But way too bold for me to pull. Although, I hear she has a lovely collection in Top shop.
The clothes were lovely, the models however.... Give these girls some food! I understand that it's not a bout them it's totally about the clothes and the designers artistic impression through them. But I do not understand why the model have to be that thin? Surely if the clothes are that good you would want to see more of it? And as they are designing CLOTHES that are WORN by people, why not get an average person to model? A very strange concept for me to understand.
The models aside, it was a truly lovely evening and for all those that have no interest in fashion I still think its worth a look and expand your knowledge of other things. You never know it could give you inspiration for your next big idea :)
Theres has been an age old debate about what sport is more manly or less girly or just better. Of course I am talking about Rugby Union Vs American Football. Now naturally, I would support Rugby Union. But as I have got older and finally understood and now enjoy American football. It gets harder and harder to choose a side. Hence the need for this blog post. I have come up with a few categories to rate each sport in and hopefully we shall crown a winner.
Aim of the Game:
Well both sports are pretty similar in this aspect, need to get the ball (which is oddly shaped the same too), over the line. The only difference in Rugby Union you HAVE to touch the ball on the ground, but in American Football you can just catch it in the end zone.
Another similarity, is the team with the most points, wins. simple. RU: 9/10 AF: 9/10
Rule Complexity:
Here is where we can see some differences, in Rugby Union you must throw the ball backwards (an odd concept) but in American Football its all about throwing forward.
Each sports has different rules regarding, punishments, substitutions and general game play rules that affect game play. However, American football has more rules and are slightly more based on the judgements of the referee.
The pitch sizes are different as well, the rugby union pitch is 20meters bigger than an American Football pitch. However, it probably goes without saying the American football stadiums are A LOT bigger!
Rugby Union is played in 40 minute half's, the time is stopped for injuries etc. But in American football, its played in 15 minute quarters, but stopped each time a play has broken down.
Another interesting fact is the amount of players in the game. Rugby union can only have 15 out field players with around 5 substitutes. However, in Professional American Football there can be 11 out field players with lots of subs. But the main difference is in American football there is essentially an attacking team and a defensive team for each team. I think this only increases the complexity of the game. As a Sport scientists I can see how it can make a difference to play like this, but as a sports fans its gets a little more confusing. RU: 7/10 (the higher the score the easy to follow) AF: 4/10 Average Rating (for big events):
The biggest event for American football is of the Super bowl, which 167 million people tuned into the Super bowl in 2012! Making this the most viewed broadcast in American history!
But, the Most watch final in Rugby Union History was the England vs Australia 2003 final, it was broadcasted in 205 countries and 3.5 BILLION people tuned in! RU: 9/10 AF: 7/10
Global Awareness:
Rugby Union is played across over 100 countries a study concluded in 2012. Whilst only 62 nations play American Football.
This may be due to that fact that American football is just a variation of Rugby Union. RU: 9/10 AF: 7/10
The Bigger Hitter:
Last, but certainly not least the most probably talked about subject between these two sports. Who tackles harder? Pads Vs No pads? Who wins..... This videos finds out using Sport Science, Or if you can be bothered to watch then drum roll please..........
(Drum Roll!)
The Biggest Hitter Award goes to: BOTH!
American Football may hit harder, but Rugby Union hits more! So I think I shall split 50/10 here. RU: 5/10 AF: 5/10
Total Score for each is as follows: RU: 39 AF: 32
So the end scores were close, but RUGBY UNION just pinches the win!
Hope you find this as interesting and fun to read as I did to write!
Until next time...

Well what a sporting weekend we just had, the start of the RBS 6 nations and the NFL Super Bowl. Both were highlights of my weekend.
RBS 6 Nations
It was such a delight to watch England play the way they did. So smooth and creative with their play. They are certainly looking very strong. Well, of course they are from beating the infamous All Blacks not so long a go. I am really looking forward to what they cam accomplish in the coming weeks. Not to mention Farrell... WHOA one for the ladies to look at ;)
Super Bowl
Well where to start, there was defiantly a moment in the first half that it looked like it was just going to be a beating to the 49ners. They just didn't seem to get going. I was rooting for the 49ners, so I was not liking the look of the first half at all. Although, I am English and live in West London, it does seem odd to take a notice into the Super bowl but I think its popularity has defiantly grown over the years as its even show on the BBC now! However, we don't get the classic super bowl advert, which I am quite upset about as Companies and Brands have reportedly spent over $1.4 Million dollars on just 30seconds of TV.... So only spending that much money could only mean great adverts!
After the disastrous first half from the 49nes point of view, it was time for the beloved half time show and Beyonce! and what a show that was!!!! I loved every bit of it! here is a link for you to watch it if you sadly missed out on this greatness... http://bit.ly/XiRTdb Then for whatever reason (lots of speculation on Beyonce) there was a power outage. This power outage last for 87minutes. Long enough for the 49ners to take a breather, regroup and get their head in the game! When the third quarter began the 49ners came out with a bang and two touchdowns withing the first 7 minutes. Amazing stuff! The game was super dramatic and amazing to watch, depsite the final score that meant the Ravens won. If that was interesting and exciting enough, the coaches of these two teams were Brothers, How proud must their parents be! A lot of family bragging rights for thanks givings and Christmases to come I think. I hope you all enjoyed the weekend of sport as much as I did. Wally Woman x
Last week I went to my first ever networking event in London. The event was a meet up with the UK Sport Network, networking and a Q&A with Richard Ayers.
It was an enjoyable evening, the Q&A session was really interesting, it had a big focus on digital media and it's impact in sport. Which is quite remarkable, as brand and other industry's have flourished with using digital media. However, sport is still quite behind, not only in the UK but globally as well. Although I enjoyed the evening afterwards, it was quite daunting at the beginning. Through my own research about how to network I know the basics, I'm not a particularly dull or boring person and I can talk for Britain. However it was nervous as you do hope these connections you make here can lead in to job prospects. So after getting a drink at the bar and starting my first chat to a stranger it wasn't long before the Q & A started. I must admit I didn't quite follow everything they were saying as a few parts were brand new to me. But it was very interesting. Luckily I did bring a friend to keep me company. This did three things.... 1) I could always stand and talk to at least someone 2) if I got stuck or shy she could help (could lead to dependence of her in the conversation) 3) push me to talk to these strangers What I did find interesting about this networking event it was quite a small gathering compared to other events I have heard of, just about 100 attendees. It was in a Sports Cafe in Piccadilly so nice and relaxed atmosphere. I found interesting that I was the only student there and the only person looking/hoping for a job through this. Which I think proved more difficult here as everyone would have long conversation about what they do and if they could become job clients etc. I did sometimes feel a bit out of my league and hard to start something, if at the moment all I do is study and have a part time job, that doesn't relate to what I want to do in the first place. However, I did talk to a few people and have a interesting conversations with them. One man was so lovely he even gave me some career advice! After I got home, I got a few new follows on twitter and some Linked In connections from people I didn't think we're that interested in me or some didn't even speak to me. So I am assuming I made some sort of good impression! I followed up people with emails and to those who said they could help me. So fingers crossed.... What I did learn from this is what to expect in future, it not about how many people you talk to or how many business cards you give out but the quailty of those conversations and you just got to jump into the deep end and do it! You may even surprise yourself! Looking forward to my next event Wally Woman x
For serveral years and more intense recently Lance Armstong has been under scrunitiy for cheating, using banned substances and lying. This seven times Tour de France winner and Olympic Brozne medalist has recently been stripped of all trophies and medals ever won in professional sport. He also took part in a no holds interview with the Queen of interviews Oprah.
Although, Lance Armstrong, the sport of cycling and most likey Lances charity, Livestong have all been disgraced. There are still many unanswered questions. I hope in the light of recent events more in depth interviews are carried out and some sort of justice is made. This man has cheated his way to success, demolished millions of peoples hope and dreams, and something needs to be done to clean up the sport of cycling. Whilst talking to my house mate about this issue, he expressed a view of "he was just a cyclist, he didn't murder loads of people, why is there so much news on him, it's just pointless". While I do slightly agree with him, Lance isn't a murder of people. But he has slayed dreams of young people wanting to be like him, cancer surviveors who admire him, cycling fanatics who love the sport. One mans mistake and wrong doing is another mans broken dream. Sports people are made great by their talents, the support around them and their loyal followers. They are pushed to succeed by themselves, their team and supporters. So when they cross the finish line first or win the match, they owe a lot to themselves and everyone who got them there. So them being a good role model to people isn't much to ask when so many people have helped these sports people achieve greatness. Lance has not only cheated like many other cyclists in the past. He lied, continuously and defiantly. That is what I think is the one thing that hurts so many more people than him just cheating his way through, Lying... A powerful and hurtful thing. However I also understand that the sport person feels a huge amount of pressure from all angles in their life . Us the viewers, sports fans and wanna be champions, we all play our part in demanding more from these people. For example, Wanting a better competition, more hills, faster races, and indirectly forcing the race organisers to make it like this. Perhaps forcing is too strong there, as they didn't have to make it extremely hard, I'm sure the Tour would still be successful and create lots of money. But who knows... Going back to the interview, lance with Oprah. One of my un answered questions is why Oprah? Watching highlights and things, Oprah wouldn't have been my first choice to interview this man. She, for me, doesn't delve deep enough in certain areas and just brushes over others. However, she did manage to get the truth, which is always a start. Here are some clips from both part one & two of the interview. Please check them out, they are definatly worth while. Part one http://espn.go.com/sports/endurance/story/_/id/8854829/situation-was-one-big-lie
You can catch the full part on the discovery channel at 8pm tonight.
Lance is definatly emotional, but I still feel he hasn't quite opened up fully. He doesn't seem sorry enough, just not enough of anything. But then he may just be in world wind of emotions, or a professional liar. Let me know your thoughts and views. Wally woman x
When I was younger and still did until a few days a go, thought that googling yourself was pointless as nothing would come up as I wasn't famous or been in the news or anything like that. However, times have changed and with the globalisation of social media you can and do show up in google searches. This is slightly worrying as anyone can find you and track you down, read tweets or posts and even see those pictures you wished no one could see.
Now, if you can see it then just think about who else can see it....EVERYONE! This is extremely important if your about to graduate. Around 81% of employers look you up online before they meet you. So if you've written some fantastic CV and cover explains and showing how amazing you are, then they google you and see all those tweets about going out getting wasted, fresher steals or those awful pictures. Maybe you should think a little about what you put on the Internet or when your fraping some one.
I'm not saying change everything, just be a bit more careful, or change privacy settings so they can see you have a profile but can't see anything else. If you really don't believe me about the consequences of what can happen with mis judged posts then check out channel 4 tv documentary- 'don't blame Facebook'. It certainly was an eye opener. People lost jobs, sent to prison or lost relationships due to social media.
Google yourself, re read your last five tweets and maybe de tag yourself from those pictures. Every little helps when trying to get your dream job!
Well after much more research I have discovered that I was in fact correct. The UK doesn't flaunt the sporting industry quite as well as the US. But maybe that in itself has a lure to it. As you have to be in it to know it?
That brings me on to the topic of networking. I have never experienced networking it's just not something I have a eve come across really. I discovered a really good website/blog called the UK Social Media & Sports Network. It's really good and useful so please check it out. They are celebrating it's 3rd birthday (which further supports my Brits don't flint it view). However, as I shall be attending this event I need to get some tips on networking.
Through out my research networking has been valued the most important thing to do to at least gain an entrance into the sporting industry. Especially as I have seen the attendees list and wow! Some Big positions are going. Hence the need for useful tips. So if you have any please let me know... Or if anyone has written a networking for dummies book that would be great!
I also came across some useful twitter chats. Although all run by the Yanks, am sure it will prove to be useful.
Here's when they occur. I have translated the times in UK time. It does seem some late nights are ahead. But as a student I sure I will manage.
#sbchat Sunday's 2:30am. (so Monday really) has a sport biz focus
#sportjc every other Monday 1am job chat
#social4tixsales tues 1am for best practices in ticket sales
#sportsprchat tues 2am
Make sure you use the hash tag. To answer questions. You know it's a question as the person will start their tweet with Q2: etc. make sure you start your tweet with A2: and at the end use the hash tags.
I have yet to venture into one of these chats. But as soon as I do I shall let you know :)
Keep doing what your doing!
I had a topic in mind for this post, it was to do with Julia Gilard controvesial speech that turned out to be a hoax. However, while researching that article I did come across this....
For those who cant be botherd to open the article its about the death of a paparazzi guy whilst trying to snap a picture of Justin Bieber smoking weed. Although, like all this typesof new trying to frane a superstar and the average joe getting hurt. The whole truth has not been discovered as yet. But it does pose an interesting topic of debate. How far can the paparazzi go? and how far is too far?
The paparazzi man was only trying to make a living to get that picture. but Justin wether he was prersent or evn smoking weed, as just trying to live his life. But on the otherhand, Justin has all is fame and fortune because of the media and those average joes taking those snaps. These reason can go on and on, all in a circle.
My opinion is, yes everyone is just trying to make a living or just trying to live their lives. But I do think boudaries should be put in place to protect both sides, the stars and those photgraphers. Whether it be no camping outside peoples homes or only having lincesned photograhpers being able to sell their photos. Or serious punishments for those celebritys that lash out on the paparazzi. But I do some think something needs to happen, but something both sides can benifit from.
I have a keen interest in sport. As I am currently in my final year student sport science at Brunel University in London. As my time at university is nearing an end and graduation is fast approaching. Like every other undergraduate student who is about to enter to 'real world', we have to start making choices and decisions of where we want to go and what we want to do.
For me, it has been hard to decide what I want to do, I know I want to be in the sporting industry, but where? First came the idea of being performance analyst, hence the sport SCIENCE degree. But that proved to be very competitive and required to give up years of my time to work un-paid. That is just not something I am prepared to do, for a number of reasons. Next, maybe a psychologist? Again un paid and very competitive. It also requires a masters degree which, I cannot afford. But the option is definitely not off the cards.
The more and more I started looking into the global phenomenon that is the sporting industry. I quickly came to realise where the money and more jobs are. Behind the athletes we see on tv, be it football stars, Olympians or boxing stars there is a whole network of businesses. From media, sponsorship, PR, management and a whole lot more. So I started looking for jobs in those areas of the sporting industry. The more I researched the more I realised that this I where I wanted to be. In the middle of fast paced world of sporting business. However, getting a job somewhere in here is just as competitive. It seems to be a huge business based on who you know and not what you know...
But if anyone has any tips out there for me then please share away.
Now while I haven't got any answers out there for you, especially you UK folk. As it's seems we haven't quite got the hang of this industry or don't quite flaunt it as the Americans do anyway. I did come across a very interesting YouTube about social media during my research today, which is definitely worth a good look!
So here it is, tell me what you think.
Welcome to my blog, not sure what all the content on here will be like, nor how good the writing will be. But if you like then please feel free to stay and look around.
I though I would take this opportunity to introduce myself properly. I am currently in my final year student sport science at Brunel University in London. My father is in the RAF so we have moved around a lot, however if people ask "where are you from" my answer is always Dagenham, Essex.
I first got into writing a blog when I travelled South Africa, it was a way of sharing stories with family and friends back home. To keep them up to date and to tell them that we are alive. Since then I missed writing a blog, it's like a social and interactive world. Where you can communicate ideas of anything you can imagine, whilst addressing an audience who you don't know... Sometimes good and sometimes bad. But let's see how this one goes.
